Witness the scorn shown by Benito Mussolini when the Italians Invaded Ethiopia I believed that the New Deal saved our nation from a revolution and voted twice out of three times for President Roosevelt. On coming to North Carolina I registered as a Democrat because there was (and is) no recogni¬ tion of an Independent Party. During the Carter years I became so disenchanted with Democratic leadership that I changed my registration to the Republican side of the scene Now I am concerned with the comparative ease with which our governor is manipulating his schemes. ‘Ecclesiastical Disapproval’ To the Editor The success of the American Dance Festival is now assured. The sulphurous anathema pro¬ nounced by the Rev. Jerry Hooper guarantees a complete sellout. As every theatrical producer knows, the road to success is paved with ecclesiasti¬ cal disapproval. CLIFFORD SANDERSON The one-party majority voted a raise for the log islature and implemented it while those who voted were still in office. More recently the terms of of¬ fice of the governor were extended to two consecu¬ tive term* (Again while the governor was in of¬ fice) Now there I* talk of Increasing the- salary of the lieutenant governor and of extending the term of the current office holders (legislative and ad ministrative) to six years How long will we wait for the same one-party rul¬ ing that may declare a dictatorship’’ HAROLD (. ELS AM A March For Gay Pride To the Editor: A historic event is happening in Durham on Sat¬ urday. June 27th: North Carolina's first lesbian and gay pride march. This time has been chosen to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the gay rights movement and to respond to the recent wave of homophobic violence in Durham, as well as na¬ tionally. We would like to endorse this march in recogni¬ tion of the support we have so often received in the past from lesbians and gay men. They have stood beside us in the movements for civil rights, peace, women's rights, freedom of choice. ERA. a nuclear- free environment, and human rights worldwide.
