- Description
- Notes by historian Jean Bradley Anderson: "These photos of what was called the Proctor House show the structure after a Dr. Ivey (who bought the house but not the land it stood on) had removed the doors, door frames, some paneling, and fireplace mantels and frames for safekeeping. He planned to move the whole house to his farm in southern Alamance County (NC). The owner had sold him the structure but refused to sell the land. W. W. H. Proctor and wife Kate had bought a tract containing 283 acres know as 'the Mason Hall tract,' Orange County deed book 52: 493, 15 April 1890, from William T. Watts and his wife Malinda of Durham for $3500. Obviously, much additional land had been purchased by many intervening owners of the Mason Hall tract that belonged to Alexander Mason. This house should probably not be called Mason Hall, but perhaps 'the Eagle Hotel at Mason Hall.' See the extensive write-up of the whole history of Mason Hall."
