The Northgate Mall broke ground in 1959 on 32 acres near the intersection of Club Boulevard and Gregson Street. It was originally conceived as a strip mall and was converted to an indoor shopping mall in 1973. In 1993 the mall was expanded, adding another 53,000 square feet of enclosed mall area. Northgate Mall closed permanently in 2020 due to financial difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
