Ralph Rogers Slides
These images were taken by Durham, North Carolina, businessman and pharmacist Ralph Rogers. The more than 300 images show many of the buildings that came down over the fifty-year period, what replaced them, and how the streetscape changed. Many of the frames include audio by Mr. Rogers, describing in more detail what you are seeing on the screen. Ralph Rogers is a native Durhamite who, along with his father, operated Rogers Drug Company at the corner of Parrish and Mangum streets for 50 years.
Ralph Rogers donated his slides to the North Carolina Collection and worked with volunteers and staff to compose the caption for each slide. Alex Kostelnik, North Carolina Collection volunteer, scanned the slides and interviewed Mr. Rogers for the audio that accompanies the images.
