During Jennis Mangum’s twelve years as Durham County sheriff, a division was established to make follow-up investigations in all criminal complaints, and the office realigned its focus to concentrate on vice activity. Under Mangum’s leadership, the office was involved in maintaining order during the civil rights protests that occurred in Durham throughout the 1960s.
