Little River School opened in 1934 to serve Black students in grades one through twelve in northern Durham County. It was the first large consolidated school for black students outside city limits, following the founding of smaller Rosenwald schools in prior years. The building burned down in 1939, but was rebuilt. When Durham County integrated its schools in the late 1960s, Little River became an elementary school. The original location of the school closed in 1993 when the city and county school systems merged. The former campus became a community center, while Little River Elementary School moved to a new building on Snow Hill Road. This digital collection consists of yearbook pages, photographs, clippings, and other materials from an exhibit curated by an alumna for a history room at the Little River Community Complex.
