Inside the Old Cigarette Factory
Known as the Old Cigarette Factory by the time these photographs were taken, this building was originally constructed in 1884 under the name the Duke Cigarette Factory. This brick factory was originally four stories, in the Italiente style. After the New Cigarette Factory was built in 1948, the building was renovated into the two-story structure that still exists at 605 West Main Street, now renovated into office and retail spaces in the vibrant West Village district of downtown Durham.
